Leslie Howard an Oakland-based yoga teacher, specializing in all things pelvic. She leads workshops and trainings nationally and internationally. Healing her own hips and pelvis led her to intense study of the anatomy and physiology of this vital bodily structure. She helped design two successful studies for UCSF on yoga for incontinence and yoga for pelvic pain. Her teaching is informed by over 3000 hours of yoga study with senior Iyengar yoga teachers. Do you tightly grip your butt muscles with all your might in yoga poses, or is there a "lazy ass" you may not be aware of? Gain a deeper understanding of the anatomy of the gluteus muscles used in standing poses and hip-opening poses. How the rump works in yoga poses can affect change in the hip sockets, where the sacrum sits, how the legs work, and how you experience the pose. Come experience familiar poses in an unfamiliar way, and learn how to get the most benefit out of your standing and hip-opening poses.

Mindful Menopause: Yoga for Hot Women of a Certain Age

Menopause often means fluctuating hormones, which can cause difficulty sleeping, feelings of irritability and fatigue, and a decreased desire for sex. But yoga and pranayama can help. We'll discuss the anatomy and physiology of this transitional time for women, followed by a few different yoga practices that can be used for the most common symptoms of menopause. This workshop is open to all women in all stages of life, whether they are in menopause or are postmenopausal, are teaching to or are in the company of women in menopause, or are anticipating going through it themselves (perimenopausal).

The Root of All Things: Understanding the Male and Female Pelvic Floor

Proper strengthening and stabilizing of the pelvic floor helps to create the correct foundation for each movement in the body. This is the true meaning of "core work." We'll locate, stretch, strengthen, and exercise the muscle groups of the pelvic floor, and discuss Mula Bandha, abdominal health, and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana. The workshop will begin with a lecture and discussion of anatomy, followed by subtle experiential movements to awaken your understanding of this often ignored area. A series of specific exercises and asanas for the pelvic floor will follow. Handouts will be provided.
